Early in 2006, at an interesting stage in the company’s evolution the shysters in conjunction with Artistic Director Kathy Joyce, decided to look beyond and outside themselves for a catalyst to ignite the devising process. Inspired by artists and influences beyond theatre, the shysters decided to create The Triptych; three theatre productions which could either be performed together or independently of each other. SHARDS, in 2006 was Part 1 of The Triptych and with ceramics as their inspiration and spark, the shysters began their exploration of a hybrid of theatre, music and a variety of visual arts. The exploration continues in 2007 with Tears, Part 2 of The Triptych and this time with textiles, folklore and paintings the spark to the devising process.
